Under 19?

If you are under 19 and thinking of a career in hair or beauty then we can offer you industry recognised qualifications, funded by the government. The following courses are structured as an apprenticeship. This means you train in a salon for a minimum of 16 hours a week and study for your NVQ at Riviera Lodge for one day a week. You get paid an allowance for your work in the salon and we pay for your transport costs to the school.

On completing your NVQ in hair or beauty you will be confident in your trade and ready for employment. There is even a life coach at hand to assist you with CV’s and interview skills to help you get the job you want.

We also run e2e and Freestyle programmes- suitable for students who may not have qualifications, are unemployed or are just unsure if hair and beauty are for them. See the bottom of this page for more details.

Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2

Topics Covered
• Manicure
• Anatomy & physiology
• Pedicure
• Eye Treatments (eyelashes & eyebrows)
• Removal & Lightening of hair (waxing)
• Facials, including face, neck and shoulder massage
• Application of make-up
• Health & Safety
• Salon reception duties
• Effective teamwork
• Develop & maintain positive working relationship

Duration: Approximately 36 weeks.

Schedule: 4 Hours per week in training centre and an expected minimum of 10 hours home study per week. A work placement would greatly enhance knowledge.

Kit: Beauty Kit & Uniform: £240.00

Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 3

This course is equivalent to A’ level standard. This is for candidates who have previously or are currently working in Beauty Therapy or hold a current certificate at Level 2.

• Massage
• Indian Head massage
• Aromatherapy
• Facial electrical treatments
• Body electrical treatments
• Optional units include Instant Tanning, Camouflage Make Up and Nail Extensions

Duration: Total Duration: 36 Weeks

Schedule: 8 Hours per week in training centre. A minimum of 10 hours home study.

Kit: Level 2 basic kit will be required.

Hairdressing NVQ Level 2

Topics Covered
• Shampoo & conditioning
• Advise and consult with clients
• Cut hair using basic techniques
• Style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques
• Change hair colour
• Perm and neutralise hair

Duration: Total duration: 36 weeks

Schedule: 8 Hours study in the training school or in the salon

Kits: A full hairdressing kit can be ordered and purchased through our admin team; the final cost will be confirmed.

Hairdressing NVQ Level 3

This course will be suitable for those wanting to further develop a career in hairdressing. The course will take hairdressing skills to a more advanced level and equip the hairdresser for a more managerial/ supervisory role in the salon.

• Advanced cutting techniques
• Advanced styling, including long hair
• Advanced colouring techniques
• Customer service improvements

The course will involve a large amount of practical work, with the emphasis on high standards and sound education methods.

Other options…

If you are a little unsure if hair and beauty is the trade for you- we can still help. We offer programmes called e2e and Freestyle which are ideal for those who need a little more help and support. You do not need any qualifications or experience and a life coach is at hand to help you.

e2e, or entry to employment, allows you the chance to experience both hair and beauty before you decide which is for you. It is a funded programme which is applicable for EMA and runs over 3 days per week. It also allows you to improve your literacy and numeracy by working towards your key skills. This course is approximately 20 weeks long and, if you complete successfully, we will consider offering you a place on an apprenticeship course.

Freestyle is very similar to e2e but would only require you to come to Riviera Lodge for 2 days a week (with an optional 3rd day if required.) This programme is ideal for students between 16-19 who are not in school, college or work. If you have a general interest in hair and beauty this course will help you to improve confidence, self esteem and, in the long run, get you into employment or training. This programme runs for 12 weeks and students may be eligible for EMA.
